To determine the material requirements for production schedules and sales commitments, communicate and work together with the production, maintenance, sales, and other pertinent departments.

Create, evaluate, and put into action stock management, handling, and distribution policies with the goal of making the most effective use of available space, funds, labour, and other resources.

Give the purchasing department instructions on what kind, how much, when, and where to buy the supplies it needs to run its business.

Write in-depth reports on inventory management-related expenses. Analyse data to provide recommendations on future stock control policies to maximise resource utilisation, as well as on the standardisation of materials and parts.

Establish the right storage conditions for different kinds of items. Make appropriate storage space allocations. Plan recurring inventory inspections to find and fix problems like deterioration or damage.
