Full Job Description

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be responsible for developing transport policies, strategies and initiatives which reconcile wider objectives with the authority's goals. You will be required to lead and manage a wide range of diverse projects and multi-faceted transport strategies, schemes and proposals. You will create, commission and manage business cases for complex transport projects and schemes in such a way that maximises the Council's chance of success when bidding for competitive funding opportunities at a national level.

Although not essential, experience and knowledge of working with the rail sector would be an advantage.

Our ideal candidate will hold a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in a transport planning related subject with a minimum of three years' experience post qualification. A strong understanding of transport planning related issues alongside extensive knowledge of external funding sources and opportunities to co-fund transport schemes will be essential. A proven ability to make a significant contribution to the development of policies and the ability to showcase well-developed project management competencies with experience of delivering complex programmes or projects will also be crucial to the role.
